About crowned sifakas: Found only in Madagascar, crowned sifakas spend most of their lives among the trees of the island’s western dry forests. Their long, powerful legs make them remarkable leapers, allowing them to travel between tree trunks without needing to descend to the forest floor.
Crowned sifakas are believed to have declined by at least 80% over a 30-year period, with the continued loss and fragmentation of their forest habitat posing the greatest threat to their survival.
Did you know? Crowned sifakas can leap distances of around nine metres between trees. When they do come to the ground, they move using distinctive sideways hops, holding their arms out to help them balance.
