In February 2020 The Aspinall Foundation achieved ground-breaking results in our cheetah rewilding project in South Africa.

Nairo, who was born in captivity at Howletts Wild Animal Park in the United Kingdom, was translocated to South Africa with his brother to start his rewilding journey.

Nairo has now had 4 cubs with a wild female cheetah in the reserve.  The 4 youngsters were born on 12^th November at Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve, a 35,000-acre site in the heart of the Great Karoo. All are doing very well and are being regularly monitored by rangers. The cubs represent critical new genetics in the Southern African Cheetah Metapopulation Project, administered by the Endangered Wildlife Trust.

The Cheetah is Africa's most vulnerable cat with less than 7000 individuals remaining, so these rewilding projects are essential to ensure a future for cheetahs.
