Sex: Male
Lives at: Port Lympne

Boki is a young brown bear who was born on 21st January 2022 at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve Unfortunately, little Boki was rejected by his mother 9-10 weeks after birth, weighing less than 9kg.

Port Lympne’s dedicated carnivore care team stepped in and collectively became the baby’s new family. Under their care, Boki quickly adapted to a diet of porridge, dog biscuits and fresh fruit and veg. He steadily gained weight and developed a cheeky, playful personality. He enjoys regular visits from his keepers, who spend hours in his enclosure to carefully monitor his condition and ensure that he has all the exercise, stimulation and company that a young bear needs.

As Boki grows, the Port Lympne team plan to work with Bears In Mind, an organisation which works to provide better living conditions for captive bears, to find a suitable bear companion for Boki.

    How we're helping

The Aspinall Foundation, a world class animal conservation charity, is dedicated to returning captive bred animals to protected wilderness areas and reserves in their native habitats. In Africa, The Aspinall Foundation fund and manage animal protection projects in Congo, Gabon, and South Africa.

Our work in South Africa started in 1995 with our first reintroduction of eastern black rhino. We then became the first charity to send a brown hyena born in the UK back to Africa. In more recent years we have rescued elephantsgiraffes and Lions and have achieved another world first in conservation for sending a pair of UK born cheetah back to the wild.
